512 1/2 - 514 South Pine Street

512 1/2 - 514 are examples of OHHIC's commitment to keeping new homes in step with the historical character of the neighborhood in which it resides. This particular project was modeled after an Oregon Hill duplex, which was originally built around 1850. Great strides were made in keeping the front appearance of this new home looking as close as possible to that of the original 1850's structure. Measurements were taken of the building and templates were made of the porch, corbels on the cornice and the canopy over the front door. These parts were then custom built by OHHIC's carpenters using cypress and cedar. We incorporated the same window and door trim as the original and metal was used on the roof of the porch to parallel the old standing seam porch top. In an effort to match the roof line, a complicated "hip roof" was constructed to give the same proportions. On several occasions, people have approached us curious to know if these houses were new or old buildings that had been renovated. We feel like they are a success when people are unable to tell the difference.
